In this remodeling project, our customers had a spacious ensuite with a corner bathtub, double sink but a very small, almost claustrophobic - 36”x36” shower. They never used the bathtub though they wanted to keep it for the resale value. Their dream was to have a more luxurious, bigger shower with a spa-like experience where they could relax.
However, the existing layout was not suitable for any of that.
Our first suggestion was to swap the toilet location with the shower. Having a new space for the shower permitted us to consider a shower as big as 42”x42”. Our second suggestion was to add 14 more inches from the next-door walking closet. The extra 14” taken from the closet made the shower a good 42”x56” size. That allowed us to build a custom bench inside the shower and fit a steam generator underneath it. That way from a traditional small shower we forged a luxurious steam shower.
However, now that the shower was in a different corner, we had to install a new plumbing and it had to be installed on the exterior wall. Working with our designer, we solved that problem by creating a decorative column inside the shower where we hid the plumbing for the rainfall shower head, hand-held shower head, and a faucet. It greatly enhanced the spa like feeling while solving the problem of an exterior wall.
Finally, to complete the luxurious feel we finish the shower with a step less entrance and added an elegant inline drain.
As with every project, we applied the Schluter waterproofing to protect the shower from moisture damage, bacteria, and mildew growth.
