The Challenge
The existing kitchen layout limited both movement and storage. With a closed-off footprint, it lacked the function the homeowners needed for daily cooking and hosting. They wanted a solution that increased cabinetry space while creating a more open connection to the living room. This project required a layout rethink rather than a simple cosmetic update. To guide homeowners through possibilities, our design team used 3D planning tools to explore options before construction began.
Design Strategy for This Pickering Kitchen Renovation
The key design move was removing and rebuilding one of the dividing walls. By shifting this wall outward, we gained valuable floor area for new base and wall cabinets. To elevate functionality, we incorporated specialty storage upgrades, including a LeMans corner unit and dual spice pullouts. These features maximize previously underused corners and keep everyday items organized and within reach.
The cabinetry palette balances drama and sophistication: deep navy lowers paired with crisp white uppers create a striking visual contrast. A matching feature vent hood, finished in the same bold blue, delivers a focal point that anchors the entire room.
