This Ajax modern kitchen renovation was designed for a homeowner looking to update her space with a clean, contemporary aesthetic that still feels warm and functional. The goal was to create a kitchen that felt open and refined without becoming visually overwhelming. By combining high gloss cabinetry, bold contrast, and thoughtful lighting, the result is a custom kitchen that feels both timeless and striking.
Located in Ajax, this project highlights how careful material selection and smart design decisions can dramatically transform a kitchen while improving daily usability.
The Design Challenge
The existing kitchen needed a complete refresh, but there were a few challenges to address along the way. The client wanted a modern look that felt calm and uncluttered, even with bold finishes. There were also plumbing pipes running through the bulkhead above the upper cabinets, which limited cabinet height and disrupted the clean lines the client was after.
Our design team needed to find a solution that would allow for taller cabinetry while maintaining a sleek, seamless appearance. The materials also had to balance contrast and texture without making the space feel too busy.
Our Design Strategy
To achieve the desired modern look, we selected flat white high gloss cabinets throughout the kitchen. Their reflective finish enhances natural and artificial light, making the space feel brighter and more open. For contrast, we paired the cabinetry with a solid black countertop, creating a crisp visual balance that anchors the room.
One of the standout features of this Ajax kitchen renovation is the flooring. Large-format 24 x 48 slab book match porcelain tiles were installed to minimize grout lines and enhance the modern feel. The backsplash continues this theme with a large-format porcelain tile featuring a subtle 3D leafy texture. This adds interest without overwhelming the design.
LED strip lighting was installed under the upper cabinets to cast soft shadows across the textured backsplash, adding depth and dimension.
The Transformation
To resolve the bulkhead issue, our team relocated the plumbing pipes further into the ceiling. This allowed us to install taller upper cabinets, improving both storage and overall proportions. The result is a cleaner, more cohesive look that draws the eye upward and makes the kitchen feel larger.
This project is a great example of how thoughtful planning and expert execution can elevate a space. Homeowners in Ajax and surrounding areas often face similar layout challenges, and solutions like these make a significant difference in the final outcome.
